So you may have noticed that Freecycle is starting to have footprints across the world. Well, there’s more good news for my UK friends. Freegle is a site that is… well… it’s just like Freecycle. I could actually copy and paste the above two paragraphs here, replace each mention of Freecycle with the word “Freegle”, and it would be a perfect description. Unfortunately, my editor Mark wouldn’t appreciate this very much.

The program is amazingly powerful, too, despite its small size. It can open all the usual file formats; displays the usual waveform view of your file; can trim, cut, copy or paste wherever you like; and has plenty of useful effects (fade in and out, normalize, remove vocals, tweak volume, auto trim, a silence remover and more).Elsewhere, expert users will appreciate extras like the ASIO and VST effect plugin support. And while the interface is a little dated, it's easy to use, and you'll soon feel at home.

There's good volume control (normalize, adjust, multiple fades, freehand volume curve), and the program can record audio, too. Effects are more limited, but support for VST and DirectX plug-ins means you can extend the program, if necessary.

While this list is mostly about general audio editing software, there are some more specialist tools which you might like to try - and MP3Gain is one of the best.
The program has only one purpose: to normalise MP3 files so that they all have the same loudness. Others claim to do something similar, but MP3Gain uses smart statistical analysis to produce better results.

The program works directly with the MP3 file, which means there's no re-encoding, and absolutely no loss in quality. It's extremely easy to use (although if you do have any problems, there's a local help file which explains everything), and you can even undo your last changes if you don't like the results.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Audacity first appeared back in 1999, and is still being developed, so it's no surprise that the program comes packed with features.
It can record live or streaming audio, imports multiple file formats, has all the usual editing options (cut, delete, copy, paste, mix). A lengthy list of effects helps you change sample pitch, adjust frequencies and volume, and you can remove many background noises, strip off vocals and more.

Another free version of a commercial package, Music Editor Free comes with a significant restriction: it can only save WAV files.
If you can live with that, though (you can always use a converter to get the format you need), there are plenty of compensations, lke a modern, ribbon-based interface; CD ripping and burning; quick and easy view control, with lots of mouse and keyboard shortcuts; powerful noise reduction tools; plenty of useful effects, an ID3 tag editor and more.

We found one or two issues, too (the YouTube downloader didn't work for us), but Music Editor Free still offers more functionality than most of the competition.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you'd like to adjust the quality of your MP3 files to save disk space, there's no need to use a full-strength audio editor - MP3 Quality Modifier is much easier to use.

If you need more, it's possible to choose your preferred bitrate, sample frequency, channel settings, MP3 Quality Modifier by default preserves your original ID3 tags and folder structure, and the program even tries to automatically repair any broken MP3s it finds.

mp3DirectCut is a tiny (122KB) dedicated MP3 editor and recorder while allows you to cut, copy, paste or adjust volume without re-encoding (which means there's no loss in sound quality).
The program interface is a little basic, and it doesn't have the same range of effects you'll see in some of the competition.

mp3DirectCut can adjust gain, create simple fades or normalise audio, though, and there are auto crop and pause detection tools, as well as an ID3v1.1 tag editor. And if you're looking for a straightforward MP3 editor then it could be a very good choice.

Free Read Feed  (USA)   regularly posts, throughout the day, the limited time free ebook offerings at Amazon (USA).  This is an extensive listing of the free ebook offerings, showing the genre (with option to eclude that genre or show only that genre in results) and the length of the ebook.  They have some filtering options, length of ebook and date of free offering as well as a large genre listing option to exclude genres (click on Pick from a list).   This link is to the Humor genre listings, which had 214 free ebooks at the time of this post.  Adult content is hidden, but can be shown by clicking on the link on the upper right of the page.
Georgia Download Destination  has 1109 free classic ebooks in its Humor genre listing available for free download in EPUB without registration.  These are works from Projectt Gutenberg, but the easy layout and quick download here will appeal.  You have to press the Humor genre link on the left as they do not allow links directly to the genres.
GetFreeEbooks - A blog like listing of free ebooks, generally offered up by the authors.  Download options vary as these link offsite.  These are updated frequently and contain unique entries not found elsewhere, so worth checking back here often.
Giggle Poetry  a large collection of funny poetry for children available for free reading online.  Also, a poetry class for children to learn to write poetry and other activites are available for free.
Google Books  a search of Google books for free Satire novels.  All of the ones that I checked were free and complete works.  Search for Humor results in further choices.
Heidoc monitors Amazon for time limited ebooks and offers the option to view, or be notified of, free time limited offers in Amazon's humor category.
Hundred Zeros CA   monitors Amazon (Canada) for the catalog of "best sellers" free ebooks and offers genre selection and RSS feeds for the individual genres.  This link is to the Humor & Entertainment genre listings.
Hundred Zeros UK monitors Amazon (UK) for free ebooks in the Humor genre.
Hundred Zeros USA   monitors the "Best Sellers" free ebook list at Amazon (USA and India).  They have individual genre listings and they have RSS feeds for the individual genres.  They offer RSS and eMail updates.    This link is to the Humour genre listings.
iLove eBooks monitors Amazon (USA) for limited time free ebook offerings in the Humor category.
Indie Book Of The Day   monitors Amazon for limited time free ebook offerings.  This link is to the posts tagged Humor.  Not a lot of entries here, but they do post the reviews along with some information on the writer and book.
Internet Evangelism Day  offers the free ebook,  Serve Him With Mirth, which attempts to inject humor into the Christian ministry, for free download in PDF and several other formats without registration.
Joggoon offers 3 free ebooks in its humor categories for free reading online. (optimized for the tablet).
Kindle-Free  monitors Amazon (USA) for limited time free ebook offerings in its humor genre.
Lit2Go  has 6 free classic novels in its Satire genre available for free reading onlie without registration.
MartiinKolacek  offers his science fiction/comedy book for free download in PDF or for Kindle.  Also available offsite for free download in ePub or prc (Palm) and for free readinng online.  Originally available in Czech language and now in English.  Thanks to "Werst" for the information on this.
Nobooko  has 72 free ebooks in its Humor & Comedy genre listing.  Most link to Kobo and are available for free download in EPUB after free registration (no credit card needed) at Kobo.  Since Kobo does not offer genre listings for its free ebooks, this is an excellent resource.  There are some Smashwords links in the results also.
obooko  offers over 100  free books by self publishing authors for free download in PDF.   Free registration is required, but I have received no spam at all.
One Hundred Free Books   monitors Amazon (USA) for limited time free ebook offerings and has a genre selection feature.  This link is to the free selections under a search for Humor.
Online Books Page has a large collection of links to the humorous works of P.G. Wodehouse available for free on the web.  Links are offsite, so download and viewing options vary.
Overdrive   provides direct free downloads of 1109 free ebooks in its Humor genre.  Although Overdrive is generally for use with a library membership, these are direct free downloads in EPUB.  Note that this does not display properly in my Firefox and I have to use the arrows to move up and down the pages.
PDF Titles  has 10 free ebooks in a search of Humor  Despite the name of the site, these ebooks are all available for free download in a wide variety of formats, including PDF, EPUB and Kindle compatible formats.   There is a large selection of sub-genres where additional works might be found.   A very nice collection with some unique entries.  There are also 8 free ebooks listed in a search of Satire.
Project Gutenberg has a large collection of classic books in its humor bookshelf.  Generally, these are available for free online reading as well as free download in a wide variety of formats.  The subject page for Humor also has a large listing of works which may be easier to look through.
Public Bookshelf has 6 free ebooks available in its humor category available for free reading online.
Short Fiction UK  has a large collection of free short stories in the Humor category available for free reading online without registration.
Short Stories Free  has 6 free short stories in its Humor genre available for free reading online without registration.
Smashwords has a very large collection of free ebooks from independent authors and publishers in its humor & comedy category.  These are available for download in a wide variety of formats, including KINDLE, EPUB and PDF among others, as well as for online viewing.
Snick's List  monitors Amazon (USA) for limited time free ebook offerings and has the nice feature of separate genre listings for these free ebooks.  This link is to the Comic-Fiction genre free offerings.
Strange Horizons  a free weekly speculative fiction magazine that posts short stories and poetry.  This link is to a search of Humor, that has 67 results.
Talewins  offers a combination of classic and newer unique works of humour for free reading online without registration.
The Book Depository has 81 free ebooks in its Humor category available for free download in PDF without registration.  You will se prices listed for each of the books, but that is for hard copy.  Look for the green Get Free eBook to click on and then the green Download Free eBook PDF on the book listing page.
TheLiteraturePage has 20 free books in its comedy category.  These are classic works and are available for free reading online.
Wattpad has a very large collection of works in its humor stories category and there are other humor categories around the site if you search.  These are unique works by unpublished authors.  Many readers have a preference for this site.
WHSmith all of the links for the free ebooks go to Kobo.  There are 54 free ebooks in the humour category.  I put this in as a separate listing as this category is not listed at Kobo.  Books may be downloaded in PDF or EPUB.
WikiSource has a nice size collection of  novels and poetry from the late 19th century and early 20th century available for free reading online in its houmour category.  Some are also available as audio works.
World Wide School has about 25 free classic novels in its humor category available for free reading online.
